showcases

My work presented here are some of my Flex applications. I have been using Flex for commercial purposes since early beta versions of Flex 2. Since then I had been involved and created quite large amount of projects, both for Web use and using Adobe Integrated Runtime (known as Adobe AIR). Due to some restrictions while working with clients I will be able to show only some of my projects, as agreements say so.

I have been working for number of well known, respected and key players of the European and world wide markets, including: Adidas (UK), Coca Cola (US and UK), Heineken (US), Schweppes (UK), Statoil Hydro (NO), Vattenfall Europe (EU and PL) and more. Having such clients allows you to create amazing products using Rich Internet Applications technologies such as Flex and AIR.

Vattenfall Home Energy Calculator

Webby Awards Honoree

Project made with Making Waves for Vattenfall Europe as the pilot project used first in Poland than targeting European markets. The scope of the project is to provide customers with easy to use, playful and easy to understand introduction into problems of home electrical energy consumption. It allows users to interactively model their consumption than to check approximately use of energy, bills and problems of carbon dioxide emission while using electrical energy (this was extremely important to the customer who is promoting brand as the "green" one).

Project is the official Webby Awards Honoree 2008 in the category "Rich Media Advertising: Business to Consumer".

My role in the project
I was the only one responsible for creating Flex solution. The whole Flex coding, Q&A, skinning and the documentation were done by me.

Background
The project itself was to be made using AJAX but all the requirements stated by the client were too much for this technologies. Client wanted to have drag and drop, very big collection of items (pretty complicated), animations and motion designs, tons of graphics, interactive elements etc. Therefore I have created the mock up for the client presenting idea - drag and drop, recalculating all the amounts "alive" etc. Client was very delighted with the Flex possibilities and even while having red light for big Flash based solutions it was promoted as one of the best.

Technical background
Project is using Flex 2 with Adobe Cairngorm 2.2, custom components, SOAP web services and .NET 2.0 server side with MS SQL. Everything was heavily skinned with Flash. Scenarios made by the users are sent to the servers, where client, the Vattenfall company, is able to see detailed statistic of them. It showed the client that Flex can be used as the very powerful business tool.

Feedback
Project was first big RIA case in the Polish market. It proofed extremely big possibilities of the Flex platform: interactivity, rich user content, very fast feedback from the app, strong business possibilities, possibility of connection to existing server side solutions using any server side technology. In the first month it was visited by 55 thousand users, which was very good achievement due to the fact that it wasn't promoted in the market. Feedback was even better and success of the project was proofed with the first award for the Making Waves in the internet field - Webby Awards Honoree 2008.

StatoilHydro news aggregator

StatoilHydro is huge Norwegian oil player on the global market. As such, client was extremely fastidious. The scope was to make very innovative and very interactive way to present articles and news aggregated from Microsoft Sharepoint server. As for such fastidious client standard approach wasn't enough. We had to think out of the box, provide extremely nice solution while using common technologies - AJAX or Flash Player. Flash platform was a definitive plus here, as client wanted to involve physics engine. We have decided to use Flex due to some specific project's requirements (for example very big model, complicated interaction, sending detailed feedbacks to the server and more).

My role in the project
I was one of two Flex programmers in the project working for Making Waves - I was working with Bartlomiej Nowak. I was responsible for all architecture, communication and visual custom components, which we had to prepare. I was also responsible for finding good coffee shops and pubs in Oslo :)

Background
As mentioned, we had some of the strict requirements, like using physics engine, using rich streaming media, lots of dynamic content and sending some information back. The whole project was developed for indoor usage in StatoilHydro.

Technical background
We have decided to use Flex 2 with Adobe Cairngorm 2.2 and APE (Actionscript Physics Engine) and TweenLite. We have also used SOAP Web Services with Microsoft Sharepoint as the server side. Yes, connecting Flex to the MS Sharepoint is relatively easy :)

Feedback
As far as I know feedback was very good. Client decided to continue developement of the project with the Making Waves.
